New Kenyan music collective Cosmic Homies comprising Marushka, Kiwango, Runkah (also known as Miss Karun) and Taio – the latter two formerly of Camp Mulla – are making their way to the 2016 SXSW (South by Southwest) Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
When Camp Mulla broke out way back in 2011 after the release of a slew of popular radio singles, many saw them as the group that would go on to to define all things hip in the 254.
But as with most groups, they broke up for reasons we will not get into. Karun then pursued a solo career as Taio & Shappaman linked up with Tiri to try and continue Camp Mulla’s reign but that did not particularly work out.
All that’s in the past however, and now Karun & Taio have teamed up with relative unknowns Marushka & Joseph Kiwango to form the group “Cosmic Homies”.
SXSW is one of the world’s biggest annual set of film, interactive media and music festivals/conferences. At SXSW 2015, more than 30,000 music industry professionals and musicians took in six nights of performances in over 100 downtown venues, with a lineup featuring 2,200 acts from 62 foreign countries.
Cosmic Homies will be performing among African artistes Petite Noir (South Africa), Davido (Nigeria), Fuse ODG (Ghana), Stoneboy (Ghana), Iyanya (Nigeria) and K.O (South Africa). 2016 SXSW Music Festival will be held March 15-20.
