Kenyan photographer, Otieno Nyadimo has been announced as the winner of the Kenya National Sony Photography Awards 2016, which is part of the Sony World Photography Awards- the largest photography competition in the world.
The 30-year old professional photographer’s ‘’Smile at the Heavens,’’ image was picked as the best photograph taken by a Kenyan photographer. The piece is a heart-warming image of a man smiling at the sky taken at a photography workshop in Hells Gate National Park.

As part of the prize, Nairobi-based Nyadimo has also won a Sony A6300 and a Carl Zeiss lens SEL1670Z. His winning image will also be part of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London scheduled for 22nd April to 8th May.
Sony will also publish Nyadimo’s ‘’Smile at the Heavens’’ image in its annual Sony World Photography Awards book. The exhibition will also include the works of other artists from various parts of the world.
Commenting about his win, Nyadimo says,
‘’I’m super excited about winning Kenya National Sony Photography Awards 2016. This is my first time winning anything photography related let alone being nominated. Keep working with what you love and it shall pay off eventually.’’
The runners up positions for the National Awards were grabbed by Allan Gichigi and Abdalla Hassan for their images titled, ‘’Chablis Woman’’ and ‘’Lost Soul’’ respectively.
The National Awards programme is held in 60 countries across the world in honor of local photographers.
